Five Kiwis In Coast Team
Five Kiwis—B. J. Mann, L. P, Brown, G. M. Kennedy, J. K. Dixon and R. O. Scholefield—are in the West Coast team to play in the quadrangular Rugby League tournament this weekend.
One player, P. Williams, will make his representative debut. Two of the reserves, P.
Hahn and B. O’Connell, have been selected for the first time.
West Coast will play Otago, Canterbury will meet Manawatu in the first round of the tournament on Saturday. The winning and losing teams will play off on Sunday. The Otago manager will be Mr G. Stuart, a former Christchurch man, and the coach Mr J. R. Collins. Mr Stuart is a brother of the New Zealand Schoolboys’ Council president, Mr L. A. Stuart. The Coast and Otago teams are:
Coast.— Mann: Williams, W. Johnson, Brown, R. J. Rochford: G. M. Kennedy (captain), B. Sweetman; A. P. Dennehy; J. L. Weir, Dixon: Scholefield, F. Kennedy, L. Mahuika. Reserves: J. D. O’Connell, Hahn, J, F. Hibbs, B. O’Connell.
Otago.— T. Ruahere, J. Shortland, G. Lucas, A. Henderson, N. Baker. L, Maxwell (captain), A. Fergusson. H. Scott, G. Giess, F. Lemalu. K. Donaldson, L. Hall, F. Maoli, L. Lome, U. Jolly, G. Dyhrberg, T. Payne.
