E. NORRIS WINS AT KAIKOURA

The reigning New Zealand champion,’ E. Norris (Christchurch), led all the way to win the Pioneer Motor Club’s annual three-day motor-cycle sporting trial at Kaikoura.

Riding a 250 c.c. Starmakerpowered Butler competition machine, he lost 130 points, which was reasonably low considering the severity of the trial to finish 30 points clear of the second man, R. Milner (Christchurch), who was on a 200 c.c. James. R, Rush, also of Christchurch, on a reliable 200 c.c. Triumph, was third. Norris struck brilliant form right from the start and after the first day, barring mishaps, virtually had the contest tied up. However, with only five

sections to go on the final day, he was very nearly eliminated.

He misjudged the depth of a pool <rf water and when his machine died there was only the handlebars and petrol cap showing above the water line. It took more than 15 minutes to get the machine running again. About half a pint of water had to be drained out of the sump. There was only one minor casualty during the trial. P. Chapple took a spill on the third day and was forced to withdraw with a badly bruised leg.
