WIN FOR SPASSKY

Could Equalise Chess Series

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) MOSCOW.

B. Spassky, already defeated in his bid for the world chess crown, won the last but one game in his title series with the champion, T. Petrosyan, in Moscow on Monday night. He thus has a good chance of drawing the whole series.

Petrosyan made sure of keeping the crown when he won the 22nd game in the series of 24 last Friday. The win gave him a total of 12 points, enough to draw the series, which is all he needs to do to remain the world champion. But the young challenger would get a strong moral boost if he should win the final match today and equalise the series.

Petrosyan has won four matches, Spassky three, and the rest were drawn.
