SUPPORTING THE LIONS
Enthusiasts Follow Team
Sixteen members of a Welsh Rugby sportsmen’s club will arrive in Christchurch on Friday. They will spend the night in the city before travelling on by air to Invercargill for the first match of the Lions’ tour of New Zealand on Saturday. The party includes five women and a cross-section of South Wales businessmen. Members of the local Cambrian Society will meet the visitors at the airport on Friday in national costume. The visitors will be bringing a letter from the Mayor of Cardiff to the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr G. Manning), who is president of the Christchurch Cambrian Society. The party, all Rugby enthusiasts, saw all the Lions’ games in -Australia. They are led by Mr Stuart Weaving, the editor' of the “Welsh Rugby” magazine. On Friday evening the group will be entertained by the Cambrian Society at Shirley Lodge.
