VICAR OF MOTUEKA

Rev. A. Purchas Appointed (From Our Own Reporter) NELSON, June 6. The Rev. A. A. Purchas, vicar of Linwood-Aranui, has been appointed vicar of Motueka. His appointment was announced by the Bishop of Nelson (the Rt. Rev. P. E. Sutton). He will take up the appointment in three months. Mr Purchas has been vicar of Linwood-Aranui since 1960. He is rural Dean of East Christchurch. He served for six years as vicar of Fairlie and became chaplain to the forces in 1954. He was educated at Christ’s College, Christchurch College, and St. John’s College, Auckland.

Mr Purchas was ordained deacon in 1951 and priest in 1952 while he was assistant curate at Timaru.

He is 37, and is married with three children.
