Extra Flights Two special flights had to be provided by the National Airways Corporation in Christchurch yesterday to help to overcome the backlog of passengers who were prevented from leaving on Sunday when bad weather closed the airport at 10 a.m. Spare seats were available on several of the scheduled morning flights yesterday and these also helped to reduce Sunday’s backlog. Bookings on afternoon flights were heavy. Cold Day Christchurch had a cold day yesterday, with the temperatures mostly in the forties. The temperature at 6 a.m. and at 9 a.m. was 44 degrees, and at midday it was 48 degrees. It had risen by 3 p.m. to 50 degrees, and the maximum, of 51 degrees, was reached at 4 p.m. The wind was a light southerly. The gauge on the Government Life building registered 50 degrees at 4 p.m.
