WEEK-END OF FILMS

Movie Clubs Meet

More than 100 members of South Island moviemakers’ clubs attended an annual “gettogether” in Christchurch at the week-end. Members came from clubs from Nelson to Invercargill. The Mayor (Mr G. Manning) and Mrs Manning attended the official opening on Saturday morning before an informal gathering. In the evening, a programme of 8 mm. and 16 mm. films was presented by the host club, Christchurch. Films taken by members of the Queen Mother’s visit were shown on Sunday with films from guest clubs. In the evening a programme was presented by the National Film Unit, showing the techniques employed in producing films of New Zealand.

The secretary of the Christchurch club (Mrs M. E. Searle) said that all of the films were of a high standard and many were competition winners.

Next year the meeting will be held in Dunedin.
