Giraffe To Calve
"The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, June 6.
Auckland Zoo staff now believe John and Anita, the giraffes, will become parents within the next few months. Last month the staff said it might be weeks before they could be certain Anita was expecting a calf. “But we think it is pretty definite now,” said the zoo director, Mr D. Wood. The first calf born to Anita died after a fall last July when it was about seven months old. It was the first giraffe born in New Zealand.
