Short-lived Liberty

(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, May 10. Two prisoners travelling under escort from Wellington to Invercargill escaped from the express at Oamaru a minute before it was due to leave for Dunedin at 1.15 p.m. today, but were recaptured four hours later. They are William Leonard Mitchell and Vivian Tutakhai Woon, both aged 18. According to the police, the prisoners sought permission to use the toilet, but left the train. Police and railway workers immediately joined in a search of the railway yards and the foreshore. They were caught at North Oamaru by Detective J. Gordon and Traffic Officer D.. Clarke.
