Dispute Settled At Paremoremo

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 10. Carpenters and labourers employed on the construction of the new maximum security gaol at Paremoremo will return to work tomorrow morning. The 90 men—almost the entire working force at the site of the £1.75 million gaol —walked off the job at lunchtime on Thursday. In the dispute, the Carpenters’ Union and the Labourers’ Union were claiming an increase of at least 6d an hour, plus penalty rates, to cover wet working conditions.

No details were released today of an agreement which was reached by the employer, Waite-Tileman, Ltd., and the unions.
