Drawing The Line
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright ) NEW YORK. May 11 A "cocktail strike” that hit the nation's busiest commuter railway last night is expected to be settled before the earlymorning rush period today. The strike hit the Long Island Railroad yesterday, tying up 20 to 30 per cent of the line's trains. The stoppage began a few hours after executives drank cocktails during a company luncheon, and two weeks after the
suspension of a diesel crew for drinking beer during a work break. A trainmen's union leader said: “It is an effort on our part to find out whether three of our men can be suspended for having a beer with their dinner while officials of the railroad can drink unhindered at their luncheon.” A court ordered the men to return to work and last night a union spokesman said the order would be obeyed.
