LEAVING ADEN
‘Situation Not Changed’ <X 7. P A -Reuter —Copyright) LONDON. May 11. ! Mr Wilson said yesterday Britain's decision to withdraw from Aden in 1968 had not caused changes in the situation there. A Conservative. Viscount Lambton, had asked in the House of Commons for an assurance that the local governments of the Aden Protectorate would receive British aid if the Egyptians invaded after Britain left. Britain’s withdrawal should be dependent upon peace and security existing in Aden and the protectorate, he said. Mr Wilson replied that Britain intended to leave its base at Aden when South Arabia gained independence.
"As the (South Arabian) Federal Government understands. it is not our intention to conclude a defence agreement with them after independence.” he said.
