Tariff Body ‘Essential’

(N.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, March 11. “The Tariff and Development Board was an essential part of the procedure for tariff fixing and review, said the president of the Manufacturers’ Federation (Mr J. R. Maddren). Mr Maddren was commenting on a report from the annual conference of the Retailers’ Federation, which questioned the value of the board.

“The policy of the Manufacturers’ Federation strongly affirms that a properly designed tariff supported by a flexible system of quantitative import licensing is necessary for the development of industry in New Zealand,” said Mr Maddren.
