Wool Barely Firm At Invercargill

(New Zealand Press Association)

INVERCARGILL, March 11

The market for fine crossbred fleece wool was generally unchanged today, the second day of the two-day Invercargill wool sale.

However, the official report quotes medium and coarse crossbred types as being in buyers’ favour compared with the first day of the sale. Lambs’ wool was about firm for better styles and erratic and slightly easier for poorer sorts. Crossbred pieces were barely firm, with oddments generally unchanged. Competition was general, Continental buyers dominating, with support from Bradford and the United States. Japanese interest was mainly in Down and Down cross types. A comparison between the official ranges of prices for each of the two days reveals a drop of about a half-penny today for most types of wooi. Top price was 61d for three bales of Southdown fleece.
