AUCKLAND, March 11.
A man who was appointed union shop steward in a machinery company in August last year was dismissed a month later, the Inspector of Awards alleged in the Arbitration Court today. The inspector is claiming a £25 penalty against the company, Tractor Supplies, Ltd., for its action in dismissing the man, which ,he claims was contrary to section 167 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1954.
The man is Max Martin Gugich. It is alleged that after he had been appointed shop steward on August 15, 1965, Gugich was told he would have to resign or be dismissed.
Gugich refused to resign and was dismissed on September 27, 1965.
Tractor Supplies Limited pleaded not guilty. The hearing will continue on Tuesday.
