Carpenter Runs Well

"The Press" Special Service DUNEDN. Carpenter and Royal Estate rival candidates for the Waikouaiti Cup, completed their preparations with most impressive trials at Wingatui yesterday.* . Flying York, Lisa and Modern Imp, which are engaged in the Toomey Memorial, were also in top form. The trials were held 40 feet out on the course proper and the track was in splendid , order. Carpenter (E. J. Didham) showed that he was well conditioned for his task tomorrow when he ran seven furlongs in Imin 32sec, the last half-mile in 53sec and the final three furlongs in 40sec. Royal Estate (R. N. Marsh) recorded one of the fastest five furlongs when he ran three lengths clear of Underwood Lass (E. Gye) in Imin ssec and first two furlongs in 25sec. The stablemates, Flying York (C. B. Clydesdale) and Bellition (E. J. Didham) equalled these times. Modern Imp (R. N. Marsh) and Dunsun (J. R. Dowling) recorded a smart half-mile in 50 4-ssec, the opening furlong in 12sec. Both horses completed their task well. | Lisa (P. J. Silver) and her I stablemate. Belfie (D. A. Adams) were together over I half a mile in 51 l-ssec, the 'opening furlong in 12 2-ssec.
