NAPIER.
Last year’s Hawke’s Bay representative Rugby team has been further depleted even before the new season starts with the announcement yesterday that the former Otago forward, K. Murdoch, will be living in Auckland this season.
At the end of last season, two forwards—A. G. Small and R. S. Abel—retired, along with the half-back, B. Neale. The wing three-quarter, D. Smith, is at present overseas and will be away for the new season, the South African three-quarter, F. P. Duvenage, has returned home, and the utility back, B. Furlong, has transferred to Wellington. Hawke's Bay, therefore, approaches the new season with only 12 of the original squad of 19 who were select-
, ed and played for the proI vince last season. , The 17st 81b Murdoch ‘ proved a great asset to the province, both as a prop and ■ as a lock. His 6ft 2in height ’ was used to advantage in lineouts and at 21 years of age 1 Murdoch is considered one of ■ the country’s most promising “ forwards.
