N.Z. TITLES S.I. ONLY

Poor Entry In Cash Cycling

Disappointingly small entries—almost non-existent in the ease of North Islanders—mark the New Zealand cash cycling championships, which form part of a large variety afternoon at Denton Park tomorrow.

There are a few riders from each of Dunedin, Timaru and the West Coast, and one from New Plymouth, but, in effect, the championships will be the Canterbury titles all over again—or, at best, a South Island contest. One rider who is most unlikely to lose his crown is the sprinter, K. Jeffery, who won the Canterbury championship. The teams' pursuit is similarly placed and Canterbury should win this title from the only other entrant, Timaru.

The individual pursuit, however, is rather more open. B. Yaxley will be defending his title but he could get some strenuous opposition from J. Biackmun, who has been riding solidly recently. A. O’Hagan is contesting only the one and 10 miles and is the favourite for these events. However, D. Sorenson (Timaru), in the mile, and G. Moore, also of Timaru, in both events, could test the Australian although they are unlikely to be able to match his punishing sprint
