Off-Season Tours For Swimmers
Annual, reciprocal tours between New South Wales and New Zealand swimmers moved a step nearer at a meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association in Christchurch last evening.
A letter was received from New South Wales suggesting off-season tours of New Zealand by junior swimmers. Any such tours would have to be made in August, to coincide with the school holidays, and would limit swimmers to indoor pools.
The association considered this would be possible at only four centres: Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin and Invercargill. These four centres will be asked for their views. New South Wales suggested that such tours would eventually be on a reciprocal basis. The New Zealand association accepted the idea in principal, and will investigate further. Training Facilities Special training facilities will be provided for the six swimmers nominated for Jamaica. Mr M. Doidge will coach the six; Misses M. Mcßae and H. Kerr, D. Gerrard, H. Brown, A. Graham and A. Seagar, at the Mount Eden Pool, Auckland.
A. Hood (Waikato) and Miss K. Morely (Gisborne), the two divers placed on the supplementary list of swimmers for Jamaica, will be provided with further competition. No decision was reached as to which centre would be used to provide practice, but the association considered the two divers should be given the chance to improve and so qualify. A letter was received from the Auckland centre recom-
mending that a swimming coach be sent to Jamaica. The association decided it would have to ascertain the attitude of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association first . Titles In Christchurch
The 1967 New Zealand championships will be held in Christchurch on February 14-18.
