Penalty Gives City Win
A penalty goal five minute* from the end enabled Christchurch City, the holder, to beat High School Old Boys, 2-1, in the first round of the Rangers' floodlit soc.cer competition at Rangers’ Park last evening. City had taken the lead in the fifteenth minute with a goal by R. Taylor, and the Old Boys equalised soon afterwards from a penalty scored by B. Wilkinson. The winning goal, and the second penalty of the match, was scored by F Madrussan.
Shlrley-Nomads also qualified for the second round with a 2-0 victory over Technical Old Boys in the early game. Both goals came in the second half and from fierce shots, R. Mulrson netting the first from outside the penalty area and D. Ennis the second from the edge of the penalty area.
The first round wiM be completed next Thursday when Rangers will play Shamrock and Western will meet Waterside.
