STRONGER HOCKEY

Plans For N.Z. Team

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Much consideration has been given to the development of a stronger national side and for coaching hockey in general throughout the country slates the annual report of the New Zealand Hockey Association to be presented at the annual general meeting shortly. “An Australian team has been invited to tour New Zealand during August and September,” says the report. “The invitation follows the New Zealand proposal to Australia that the inter-change of visits should be annually, excluding the year of the Olympic Games.” Negotiations to explore the possibility of a brief tour of Japan by New Zealand later this year are also under way.

“Other international tournaments of interest to New Zealand are the pre-Olympic tournament at London, from October 16-21, 1967, the international tournament in Cairo, from November 20-26 this year, and the Asian Games at Bangkok, from December 9-20,” states the report. On the national front the report says the association is considering the extension of coaching schools by conducting regional schools catering for increased numbers.
