Successful Year
The Friends of the Hospital had a record year, says a report to be presented to the annual meeting. Funds from stalls reached £221 10s lOd and Christmas grants amounting to £B4 were donated to the various hospitals and homes. Regular visiting to hospitals and homes has been continued and members reported that their visits had been eagerly received. The president, Mrs A. H. Hammett, died during the year. Mrs Hammett was a foundation member of the society and she was vicepresident for 17 years before she took over the presidency after the retirement of Miss A. A. McLean.
Big Machine.—The largest bottle-washing machine for milk in Africa has been landed in Pretoria. Weighing 28 tons lOcwt and measuring 27ft Bin by 13ft 2in by Bft lOin. it is one of the biggest single pieces of machinery ever to be imported into South Africa. In full operation it will be able to handle a maximum of 18,000 milk bottles an hour.
