HIGH-COUNTRY POWER
Board Awaiting Costs About £20,000 would be involved, and runffiolders might be able to help with capital contributions or loan money, said the chairman (Mr W. A. Newton) yesterday when the Central Canterbury Electric Power Board discussed the proposed high-country extension of supply in the Dake Coleridge area. Mr W. H. Faulkner asked if the board was able to give costs to those concerned. Mr Newton replied that actual figures would not be known until guarantee negotiations had been completed. The engineer-inanager (M r Blectrirsty Department wanted the board’s supply at the Harper river dm, nd might pay for its own line as well as paying a guarantee. There was no decision yet as to what subsidy would be paid on the reticuitton. The Mount vlgidus and Gienthome sheepataitions would be interested also in (getting power, said Mr Newton. The way the loan market was, it might not be fair to spend £20,000 on three consumers when the money could be spent to benefit many more consumers in built-up areas. The prospective consumers might consider meeting the capital cost or finding the bulk of the loan money, said Mr Newton. The board should have figures for its April meeting.
