VIETNAM MEDAL

Approval Of Issue (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 8. I The Queen has approved I the award of a Vietnam medal ; for New Zealand and Austra- | lian forces in South Vietnam. ’ The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said the design of the medal and details of eligibility had still to be decided. The New Zealand and Australian Governments would submit suggestions soon for the Queen’s consideration. The medal will recognise service in South Vietnam on and after May 29, 1964, and will apply to New Zealand servicemen posted to a unit stationed in South Vietnam from that date onward.

New Zealand personnel qualifying for the Vietnam medal will not, however, be eligible to receive in addition the General Service Medal, 1962, for service in South Vietnam.
