SERVICE IN ARMY
Minimum Age Reduced The minimum age for adult soldier entry to the Regular Army has been reduced from 18 years to 17i years. In announcing this Army Board decision the Director of Recruiting, Lieutenant-Colonel H. L. Jones said that Army entry at 17J years now matched the normal entrv age to the R.N.Z.A.F. It was of interest too that the British and Australian Annies both enlisted men aged 17 for adult service. It was hoped that this earlier entry age would help young men who otherwise would have had to seek temporary employment while waiting to begin their Regular Anny careers at 18. Lieutenant-Colonel Jones said the Anny would continue to obtain parental consent to enlistment when applicants were under 21 years of age and that the minimum ages for overseas service (20 years, or 19 years with parental consent) remained unchanged.
