ELECTION MARGINS

Labour Leader Corrected GV.Z, Press Assoriaftnn' WELLINGTON. March 7 The Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) said today that the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Kirk) had repeatedly demonstrated his capacity to make incorrect statements of fact “He is always using incorrect figures and if his political strategy is as good as his arithmetic the Government will welcome the change in Labour leadership,'' Mr Holyoake said.

Mr Kirk said at the weekend that Labour would concentrate on winning three "marginal” Government seats in the North Island at this year’s general elections.

He said the National Party had won the Gisborne seat by a 509 majority at the last election, the Rotorua seat by 1900 and the Taupo seat by 330.

The Prime Minister said today: “In actual fact Gisborne was 902, Rotorua 2217 and Taupo 275.” Mr Holyoake said he had “some ideas” about concentrating the National Party's election campaign on seats held marginally by Labour.
