UNBEATEN IN THREE STARTS
Mr Mink, a lightly-framed Copenhagen II colt, cut the other two-year-olds down to size in the Plunket Nursery Handicap at Trentham on Saturday. In winning this £lO9O event on the first day of the Wellington autumn meeting, Mr Mink kept his record intact in three starts. Mr Mink had the early pace to reach the leading line almost straight away, and he had the class and gamenes* to cope with a sustained challenge from Stylish Mate inside the last two furlongs. L. K. Tinsley gave him a crack with the whip near the junction with the course proper, where the colt was drifting towards the middle of the track. It looked as if it would be very close a furlong out, but Mr Mink was in no real trouble in the last 50 yards. Stylish Mate was a good bit better than any of the others on the day. He was two lengths clear of Exalt, which beat Valiant Knight by a length for third. If there was an improver in the race it was probably Valiant Knight. He missed some work because of foot trouble Janeville, the second favourite. was sixth, and had' her chance. Roman General, the only South Island runner, drifted to the rear straight away, but made ground down the outside to finish seventh. The Ellerslie-trained Sir Oman
completed a course double worth £4O Is for £1 when he won the Tinakori Handicap. Sir Oman outfinished the three-year-old filly, Serena, for a half-length decision. Kelloman, a stablemate of Devastation, was a stronglyfinishing third.
