A Pocket Of Australiana
Australia, its life, people and customs hopped into Christchurch yesterday by “kangaroo transport” and formed a static display in the Horticultural Hall as part of the attractions of Australia week which opens in Christchurch today. After discharging its cargo, the kangaroo must have bounded back across the Tasman for the wild life display featured birds, snakes, lizards, and a wallaby, but no kangaroo. The display caters for all ages and interests. For those with an interest in cash the decimal currency section will provide practice in converting pounds, shillings, and pence, to dollars, and cents. Australian flowers, trees, and shrubs are prominently scattered throughout the hall and for those who prefer a different type and style adornment, there will be parades of Australian clothes. Primary and secondary industry are side by side with surfing and town planning and education. Films will also be shown. A large section of the display features Aboriginal weapons and products, painted with traditional designs.
