37 PAIRS IN CROQUET
Faced with a record number of entries, the Canterbury Croquet Association has made the Agnes Dick handicap doubles a separate competition this year. Normally the event is played in conjunction with the senior and junior tournament, but at least 37 pairs are seeking the trophy on this occasion. The competition commemorates Mrs Agnes Dick, who was a district referee, a member of the Cashmere and United clubs, and a keen supporter of junior players. The trophy is a memorial tray, presented by her son and daughter. Each pair in the tournament consists of one senior and one junior player. The tournament’s opening will be held at the Cashmere club. Valley road, this morning, after which the players will disperse to other greens. The tournament is expected to last about a week.
