9-DAY WAIT

No Berth For Ship (N.Z. Press Association) NELSON, March 4. A long wait off Port Nelson is expected to end tonight for the Shaw Savill Line’s 7550 ton Romanic. The Romanic arrived off the port on Thursday, February 24, in ballast from London to load 220,000 cases of Nelson apples, the largest shipment from Nelson this season. The ship has been lying off the port since her arrival because of the late maturing of Nelson apples. The port has been working to capacity, and all berths have been filled during the Romanic’s waiting time. The Nelson harbourmaster, Captain R. Murphy, said the nine-day stay outside the port was the longest in his experience there. Loading the Romanic would start tomorrow, he said.
