Worst Good Enough

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Although it lost a man overboard and registered its worst performance of the series, a fourth, Auckland retained the Moffat Cup national Idle Along yachting title when the fifth and final race was held at Point Chevalier yesterday. Auckland, which until the late stages of the race was one of the three main leaders, lost ground during the first half of the race when D. Scrivin fell from the trapeze wire and was swept around the front of the yacht. However, Auckland had few worries as it had only to finish seventh or better in yesterday’s race to clinch the title. Results:

Fifth Bace. Wellington, 2:23:14, 1; South Canterbury. 2:23:28, 2; Hawke’s Bay, 2:24:2, 3; Auckland, 2:24:11, 4; Manukau, 2:25:44, 5; Otago, 2:27:40, 6. Bay of Plenty and Taranaki withdrew.

Final points:—Auckland, 373.32, 1; Wellington, 356.66, 2; Hawke’s Bay, 259.99, 3: South Canterbury, 214.99, 4; Bay of Plenty. 184.51, 5; Otago, 124.93, 6: Taranaki, 121.89, 7; Manukau, 118.15, 8.
