Eight To Get Challenges
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The chances of special challenges from Otago, MidCanterbury and King Country for the Ranfurly Shield being accepted are practically nil, according to Rugby officials in Auckland. But eight unions automatically qualify for challenges because they were hosts to Auckland last season. These are Wellington, Waikato, Northland, Taranaki, Counties, Canterbury, Thames Valley and Bay of Plenty.
