Obituary MR W. A. SMITH
Mr William Archibald Smith, a former president of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, and a member of the Canterbury - Westland branch, died in Christchurch recently He began his accountancy career with the Kaiapoi Woollen Manufacturing Company before the First World War, and became secretary of the Canterbury Patriotic Fund for two years and a half during the war. and then was head accountant for the legal firm of Duncan, Cotterill and Company, until the late 1930’5.
Mr Smith was president of the New Zealand Society of Accountants in 1932-33 and served on its council from 1926 to 1938. He was also a part-time lecturer in accountancy at the University of Canterbury during the 1920’s and 1930'5. In later years he was a director of several companies. Mr Smith was a member of the Christchurch Rotary Club, the Canterbury Club, and the Fendalton Bowling Club, and a life member of the Richmond Working Men’s Club. He is survived by two daughters and three sons.
