CROQUET FINALS
Win For Gumsey F. W. Gurnsey won the men’s championship at the South Island croquet championships yesterday, beating A. E. Saalfieid in two straight games. Gurnsey took control early in the first game, and Saalfeld failed to overtake him when he obtained the innings. The second game was closely contested, with Gurnsey gaining the final advantage. Mrs E. Todd accounted for one of Mrs J. McCracken's two lives in the final of the second life of the women’s championship. Mrs McCracken still retains another life in the semi-final of the first life, where she meets Mrs L. Peters. The winner will meet Mrs J. Martin in the final. Women’s Championship Second life final: Mrs E. Todd (Christchurch) beat Mrs J. McCracken (Christchurch), 26-19. Men's Championship First life final: F. W. Gurnsey (Christchurch) beat L. Mitchell (Christchurch), 26-25. Final: F. W. Gurnsey (Christchurch) beat A. E. Saalfeld (N.S.W.), 26-15, 26-23.
Levels Singles First life final: Mrs J. McNab (Christchurch) beat Mrs C. C. Holland (Christchurch), 26-9. Second life final: Mrs L. Peters (Christchurch) beat Mrs J. McNab (Christchurch). 26-23. Final: Mrs McNab beat Mrs Peters. 26-10. Handicap Doubles Final: A. J. Brunning (Christchurch (24) and Mrs J. Craddock (Christchurch) (4) beat J. McNab (Christchurch) (4) and Miss M. Saunders (Christchurch) (54). 26-16.
