FAULT IN WING

Electra Out Of Service (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Feb. 7. Hairline cracks were found today in the wing of an Air New Zealand Electra. The aircraft has been withdrawn from service. An airline spokesman said the aircraft involved was the same one temporarily withdrawn from service on January 22 when routine tests showed corrosion of part of the “skin” of the port wing.

The Electra was returned to service after six days. The latest fault has shown up towards the trailing edge of the starboard wing, between the fuselage and the inner engine. As on the first occasion, said the spokesman, the safety of the aircraft was not impaired by the fault. The Electra is expected to be out of service for a week.
