1190 PUPILS ON ROLL
Hagley High School The new Hagley High School has opened with a roll of 1190—460 former West pupils, 310 former Technical pupils, 405 new pupils from lower schools, and 15 from other high schools. They included enrolments from England, Singapore, and Australia and were the best he had known, said the principal (Mr T. R. Richards) on Friday evening. Enrolments were still being received, but only in professional and general courses, he said. Building, engineering, commerce, and homecraft were full. Mr Richards said all new buildings were ready except the new two-storey block. The upper floor would be finished on Wednesday and the lower floor in about a fortnight. Uniforms had been favourably received. Tie material had been pilfered in London, blazer cloth was delayed, and overcoat material had been held up on the wharves. He praised his staff for long preparations during the holidays.
