Australian’s Victory In S.I. Croquet Final
A. E. Saalfeld (New South Wales) defeated F. W. Gurnsey (Christchurch), 26-21, in a hardfought match to win the second life of the men’s .championship in the South Island croquet titles yesterday. Gurnsey, however, who had been the only two-lifer, still has to play J. McNab in a semi-final of the first life.
Gurnsey and L. I. MMchell won the final of the first life of the doubles championship, defeating Mrs J. McCracken and
Mrs J. Martin Ln ■ tactical game.
In the final of the second life, J. McNab and Mrs McNab defeated Mrs V. Whitcombe and Mrs F. Barrow. Both sides hit In some excellent long shots Results:
Women's Championship Second Life.—Semifinals: Mrs E. Todd (Chch.) beat Mrs V. Whitcombe (Chch.), 26-19.
Mtn’s Championship Second Life.—Final: A. E Saalfeld (N.S.W.) beat F w’ Gurnsey (Chch.), 26-21.
Doubles Championship First Life.—Final F. W. Gurnsey and L. MlitcheU (Chch.) beat Mrs J. McCracken and Mrs J. Martin (Chch.), 26-19. Second Life.—Final: J. McNab and Mrs McNab (Chch.) beat Mrs V. Whltcombe and Mrs F. A. Barron (Chch.), 26-18. Levels Singles First Life.—Semi-finals; Mrs J. McNab (Chch.) beat Mrs H Bleasdale (Chch.), 26-11. Second Life.—Semi-final: Mrs McNab beat Mrs B4eaedale. 26-14.
Handicap Singles Semi-final.—Flanagan (Chch > (21) beat A. E. Saalfeld (N.S.W.) (minus 1), 26-19; Mrs R. Osmond (Chch.) (5) beat Mrs J. Moffat (Chch.) (61), 26-24. Handicap Doubles Semi-final.—A. J.
