Girl Dies In Sprint

AUCKLAND, February 3. A 14-year-old girl competing in a 220 yards sprint race collapsed and died at Mount Roskill tonight.

She was Thelma Wells, daughter of Mr and Mrs J. Wells, of 27 Ellis avenue, Mount Roskill.

She was a pupil at Lynfield College. She collapsed 75 yards from the finish of the race at a Roskill South Athletic Club weekly meeting at Griffen Memorial Park. Mouth-to-mouth resuscitation for 30 minutes failed to revive her.
