NURSING EXAMS
Change In Marking (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. There were now some 18 separate State examinations in nursing and with the introduction of a further examination for the community nurse it was an appropriate time to review the procedure and to change the reporting of marks, said the registrar of the Nurses’ and Midwives’ Board (Miss A. Orbell) today. in arriving at this decision, tte board accepted expert advice from the educational research authorities and others connected with education. “The method which has now been adopted is one which is being used extensively overseas,” Miss Orbell said. “It is both fair and efficient. “Furthermore, it ensures careful review of both honours and fail candidates and a readier assessment of the main pass list. “The markers assess the examination papers into the categories of honours, pass, and fail. When this has been completed, papers in the honours and fail groups are then marked in the usual way to establish the numerical validity of the original assessment.
“As in the past, all borderline papers are thoroughly rechecked to remove the least element of doubt regarding the outcome.”
