SOFTBALL TEAM DISQUALIFIED

A Wanganui softball team, Braves, has been disqualified from the John Lennon national inter-club tournament finals to be played in Christchurch on March 4 and 5.

The New Zealand Softball Association has announced that Braves had been disqualified far including unqualified players in its team in the lone matches. Braves finished second equal with Huia Chiefs (Palmerston North) in the Wellington zone and, having defeated Huia Chiefs during the zone matches, appeared to be one of the two Wellington zone teams to go through to the finals. However, the New Zealand association reversed the result on protest and Huia Chiefs and the zone winner, Broadway (Wellington), will be the Wellington zone finalists.

The rule regarding eligibility of players reads: “No player shall play for any dub in a national tournament or fixture unless that playa- has been affiliated to the club at

least 28 days prior to the commencement of such tournament and has played at least one game for the said club during that period.”
