RESCUE AT SUMNER
Boy Pulled From Pool
An unknown middle-aged man rescued a two and a half-year-old boy from drowning at Sumner yesterday. The boy, Martin Harrison, the son of Mr and Mrs C. Harrison of 530 Glenfield road. Auckland, was dragged unconscious from a tidal pool near Cave Rock.
About 3.15 p.m. three young boys ran to the Sumner Life Saving Clubrooms and said a small boy was in trouble. Using a binocular, the patrol saw a boy floating on his back in one of the tidal pools.
The club’s rescue patrol was turned out but by the time it reached the pool the unknown man had dragged the boy ashore. The pool was about 2ft deep at the time.
The boy had been on the beach under his parent’s care and had wandered away. After the boy had been revived on the beach he was taken to Dr. J. D. Thompson’s surgery.
