Pies Are On Way Out
(N Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Jan. 14. Peas, pies and potatoes were no longer the staple diet of Englishmen. said Sir Samuel Salmon. chairman of J. Lyons and Company. Ltd., one of the largest food manufacturers and caterers in Britain. Sir Samuel Salmon, who is spending a week in New Zealand, said in Auckland today that there had been a decided swing toward more specialised meals in British restaurants. “The public demand is for well-cooked, wellprepared meals." he said. “Chefs who can do anything are becoming fewer so we have had to go in for specialised eating houses.” Sir Samuel Salmon will visit New Zealand food producers before returning home by way of the United States.
