‘TALK CORPS’ MEMBER
New Zealander Wanted (N.Z P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) WASHINGTON, Jan. 12. The “Washington Post” today nominated “chatter champion” as the first member of a new corps which could bring about eternal peace simply by out-talking the diplomats. The man the “Washington Post” has in mind is Lester Mcßride, who won a marathon talking contest in Dunedin, New Zealand, by chattering incessantly for 113 hours and one minute. “His capacity to talk endlessly suggests that he might find a career in modern diplomacy,” the newspaper said in an editorial. “He could sit in on the disarmament negotiations which are perennially vocal in Geneva, or we might ready him for discussions on peace in South-east Asia. “Some of us are pinning our hope for survival on indefinite talk to stave off catastrophe.
“Let’s induct Mr Mcßride in a ‘talk corps' prepared to argue for equity and peace.”
