Hughes To Ride Silver Sunset At Trentham

AUCKLAND. The Takanlnl jockey, G. F. Hughes, has been engaged to ride Silver Sunset at the Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting. Silver Sunset had “done really well,’’ her trainer, J. L. Jenkins, of Te Rapa said. Jenkins said the mars would run in the £2OOO Metropolitan Handicap on the second day and then contest the £6OOO George Adams Handicap on the third day at Trentham. Silver Sunset is likely to travel south early next week. Other Te Rapa gallopers which will make the trip to Trentham include Golden Defoe, and the .stablemates Boodle, Peterman and All Smoke. Golden Defoe, one of the best stayers in the north, will run in the Wellington Cup on the first day. Golden Defoe finished second to Apa in the Auckland Cup at his last start. Golden Defoe’s trainer, R. T. Cotter, is very pleased with the gelding’s progress. “I put him out in the paddock for about five days after the cup,” said Cotter, ‘‘and he has come back better than ever.” Golden Defoe finished last in the- Wellington Cup last year. However, he now looks much stronger and better equipped to run a hard two miles. He will be ridden by the Takanini lightweight, D. A. Raklander. Peterman will run in the £l5OO Anniversary Handicap on the first day and then in the £5OOO Wellington Derby.

In the Great Northern Derby Peterman had a great battle with the Ellerslie colt, Terrific, and won by a long head. Terrific will go south for the Wellington Derby.

The Ellerslie sprinter, Misere, and his stablemate, Magician, will travel south early next week. Misere’s mission Is the Telegraph Handicap on the first day. Magician has been entered for the Wellington Cup. Pheroz Pride, along with her stablemates Sobig and the two-year-old, Awahnee, also will go south early next week.

Rehandicap.—For his win at Awapuni on Wednesday Tipperary Tom has been rehandicapped 61b to 9-8 for the Dash Hack Handicap at Marton tomorrow.—(P.A.)
