Launch Explodes; Family Unhurt
(New Zealand Press Association) BLENHEIM, January 13. A family escaped injury when a petrol explosion shattered their 19ft cabin cruiser in Queen Charlotte Sound, off Green Bay, yesterday 'afternoon.
They are Mr and Mrs A. Orsbom, formerly from Hawke’s Bay and now of Wellington, and their three sons, Adrian, aged 13, Wayne, aged 11, and Mark, aged four. The explosion blew Mr Orsborn and Mark into the water from the door of the cabin. The launch caught fire and sank, but the family launched a dinghy and was rescued by Mr G. Baxter, of Picton, the first man to reach the scene. Mrs Orsborn said she had cause to be thankful because the family always wore lifejackets while out in boats. There could have been a tragedy had they not worn them yesterday, she said.
