WORRIED BY SHOOTERS
Youths Firing At Night
Youths thought to conie mainly from Christchurch, are making a nuisance of themselves shooting at night in the area between Burnham and Southbridge, and have residents worried at possible effects from stray bullets. | “They come out in cars and 'go after rabbits, and if rabbits are not in evidence, they ,have a go at anything at all." | said a Burnham fanner, who asked that his name be not ! published. I “If they are not climbing iover fences, they are shooting on the roads. A lot of them don’t seem to realise that it is an offence to discharge a firearm on a public (road, or that in the dark, they can get too close to houses—and a .22 bullet will riccochet anywhere. “1 think the majority of farmers would not mind if these people asked permission first before going on to private property. As things are, they mostly just help themselves.” Asked if any stock had been shot, the farmer said a pig had been shot at Burnham before Christmas, but he had not heard of any other casualties.
