Giant Turtle Off Northland
(N.Z. Press Association) WHANGAREI, January 12, A giant turtle, a rare sight in New Zealand waters, was seen by a family aboard a ketch at Twin Rock, Cape Brett, off the Northland coast yesterday. It measured about 4ft 6in between head and tail. Mr and Mrs E. R. Sayer and their family, of Whangarei, saw the turtle from their 41ft ketch, Evango, returning from the Bay of Islands to Whangarei.
The turtle surfaced and dived near the yacht about six times in three or four minutes.
