Banks’ Statutory Deposits Fall

Reserve Bank advances to marketing organisations rose slightly in the week ended

January' 7, from £43.8m to £44.4m. according to figures released by the Reserve Bank. Bank notes in circulation fell from £99.7m to £97.2m. State deposits with the bank showed a slight increase on the previous week—they improved £o.Bm to reach £lsm. Trading bank statutory deposits fell from £52.4m to £51.5m. Reserve Bank overseas exchange holdings rose £lm to £l2.sni. and overseas investments were again unchanged at £23.2m. Investments in NewZealand fell fractionally to £34.2m.

State indebtedness was lower by nearly £3m, at £73.4m.
