This is the opinion of Mr A. J. Campbell, an officer of an Australian management consultant firm, who is at present in Christchurch on business. Mi- Campbell, of -John P Young and Associates, is himself a New Zealander “who did not return after the war." lie has held executive posts with large companies in Australia. specialising in sales and personnel training. John P. Young and Associates have recently establish-;
ted a New Zealand section, {and Mr Campbell is conductling training courses for sales (staff in several Christchurch' 1 manufacturing companies. Small Groups ! These courses are given (either within a company, ori (to groups including staff from! (several firms, usually allied (in some way, as with the] I building trade. The groups are kept small not more than 12 to a course—so that individual weaknesses can be | corrected. Since 1957 at least 30,000 ! people had attended two-day
(courses given by his firm, said I Mr Campbell, and he has personally trained more than 15000 people. { Courses are given not only 1 in sales training, but also covier a wide range of services in , the field of staff work, including telephone technique, public relations and staff supervision. While large firms are! usually leaders in the employment of management consultants. now many smaller businesses are sending staff to courses, says Mr Campbell. Also small firms in Australia are now more willing to employ consultants to solve problems where their staffs have insufficient specialised train-' ing.
