OVERSEAS BOXERS
Auckland To Sign 5 (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Ambitious programmes for open-air tournaments at Carlaw Park next month are being arranged by the Auckland Boxing Association. Eddie Cotton (United States) is to fight Sipa Fine (Tonga) on February 1, and the Auckland association is seeking fights between other leading overseas boxers. The Empire middle-weight champion, Gomeo Brennan, of the Bahamas, the Empire welter - weight champion, Brian Curvis (Wales), and the Californian, Charlie Shipes, have all signified they will be available to fight in Auckland this summer, and the association is also seeking the world-ranked middleweight, Harry Scott, of England.
It is planned that Curvis should fight Brennan and Tuna Scanlan, of Auckland, should meet Scott. The winner of the latter bout would fight Brennan for the Empire title. It is also planned that if all the boxers are available in February Shipes would meet Brennan.
